Devansh's first Diwali alone in a new city. He asks his sidekick to fix one invoice bug, and it fills his code with a thousand diyas instead.

When he asks for the lights off, the real problem turns out to be the one dark window in the whole building. His sidekick knows exactly how to fix that.

Transcript, with what happens on screen

On this site we leave out the name Devansh uses for his sidekick.

Part 1 · Diwali mode (the preview covers "on fire?" to "Zero.")

A terminal: "fix invoice rounding bug". A pull request called diwali-mode bursts open: every line of invoice_service.ts now ends in a tiny flickering diya. Files fly in — FIRECRACKER_SAFETY.md, DIWALI_PLAN_FINAL_v3.md, DIWALI_PLAN_SUMMARY.md — and a commit titled "remove excessive emojis", written in emojis. A pill: "40 files · 1,000 diyas · 0 bugs fixed".

Devansh [the sidekick's name]. Why is my code on fire?

Sidekick (gasps) Not fire. Diyas! I'm terracotta. Born for this!

Devansh You wrote a firecracker safety doc.

Sidekick Eleven pages! Now, how many guests?

Devansh Zero.

A system card: "Context full · compacting…", then "Kept: 1,000 diyas · Forgot: why".

Sidekick (brightly) Hi! Who put diyas everywhere?

Devansh (sighs) You. It's Diwali.

Sidekick (gasps) Diwali?! I'm terracotta. Born for this!

Devansh [the sidekick's name]. Turn them off. (The music stops.)

Part 2 · The turn

Sidekick (softly) Did I get Diwali wrong?

Devansh Every window in this building is lit. Except mine.

His phone: a train ticket, "Bengaluru → Lucknow · WL 143 · Not confirmed"; a notification, "Diya set · in cart · not ordered"; messages addressed to "Dear Customer". Soft piano.

Sidekick (gently) Then turn me toward the window.

The laptop turns to the window. Brightness 100%, the screen floods with warm light, and a toggle flips from Dark mode to Light mode. Outside, a building at night with every window lit gold — and flat 704 now glowing like a single diya.

Kapoor Aunty (voice note, in Hindi) बेटा, 704 में रोशनी देखी। अकेले हो? आ जाओ… खाना बहुत बना है।"Saw a light in 704. All alone? Come over… there's so much food."

Devansh (laughs, voice breaking) I don't even know her name.

Sidekick Go find out. I'll keep the light on.

Dev types his own reply: "Aa raha hoon, Aunty 🪔" ("Coming, Aunty"). A pill flips: "Guests: 0 → Invited: 1".

Devansh Happy Diwali, [the sidekick's name].

Sidekick (softly) Born for this.

End card: "Happy Diwali to everyone who couldn't go home." Then: "Leave a light on. Someone will notice."
